When does the Haver property imply selective screenability?

چکیده

We point out that in metric spaces Haver’s property is not equivalent to the property introduced by Addis and Gresham. We prove that they are equal when the space has the Hurewicz property. We prove several results about the preservation of Haver’s property in products. We show that if a separable metric space has the Haver property, and the nth power has the Hurewicz property, then the nth power has the Addis–Gresham property. R. Pol showed earlier that this is not the case when the Hurewicz property is replaced by the weaker Menger property. We introduce new classes of weakly infinite dimensional spaces. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. Selective Screenability and the Hurewicz Property

We characterize the Hurewicz covering property in metrizable spaces in terms of properties of the metrics of the space Theorem 1. Then we show that a weak version of selective screenability, when combined with the Hurewicz property, implies selective screenability Theorem 4. 1. Definitions and notation Let X be topological space. We shall use the notation O to denote the collection of all open ...

Selective Screenability in Topological Groups

We examine the selective screenability property in topological groups. In the metrizable case we also give characterizations of Sc(Onbd,O) and Smirnov-Sc(Onbd,O) in terms of the Haver property and finitary Haver property respectively relative to left-invariant metrics. We prove theorems stating conditions under which Sc(Onbd,O) is preserved by products. Among metrizable groups we characterize t...

The Effect of Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive Properties on Screenability

Pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) are the major source of stickies in paper recycling. It is desirable that the PSA not break down into very small pieces during repulping so that it can be screened out. However, it is not clear in the literature what mechanical properties of PSAs are required to make PSAs screenable. In this study, the screenability of a range of PSAs was evaluated. The hydro...

Products and Selection Principles

We study when the product of separable metric spaces has the selective screenability property, the Menger property, or the Rothberger property. Our results imply The product of a Lusin set and (1) a Sierpinski set always has the Menger property (Corollary 12); (2) a γ-set always has the Rothberger property (Corollary 13). All topological spaces considered in this paper are assumed to be separab...

Paraoxonase Inhibition by Propranolol

There are many evidences that human serum paraoxonase activity modifies plasma lipid profile and paraoxonase has an antiatherogenic property. Non-selective beta-blockers affect plasma lipid profile too, but they have atherogenic property when patients take these drugs in long term. In this study the effect of propranolol, a non-selective beta-blocker, on paraoxonase activity was investigated. L...
